Yes, we do although there may be situations where recommendations will be made for students to access resources themselves, for further reference.
Due to the way the classes are structured, they will get to grips with a lot of the concepts during the lesson. There will be homework, but regardless of whether it is completed or not, we do advise that whatever has been learnt should be practised during the week, so we can build on it in the next lesson.
Each lesson lasts 1.5hrs.
Classes are structured around various topics, themes, or real-life situations to facilitate natural conversation. We also integrate grammar and vocabulary exercises into the discussions to enhance learning.

All of our classes take place at The Kinetic Business Centre, Borehamwood WD6 4PJ.

If your child is verbally expressive, that’s great! There are a number of ways that your child would benefit from our conversation classes:
- Channeling Energy Productively: Verbally expressive children often have a natural inclination towards verbal expression. Conversation classes provide a structured environment where their verbal expressiveness can be channeled into constructive communication activities, helping them develop their speaking skills in a focused manner.
- Improving Communication Skills: By participating in conversation classes, verbally expressive children have the opportunity to refine their communication skills. They learn how to express themselves clearly, articulate their thoughts coherently, and engage in meaningful dialogue with others.
- Enhancing Listening Skills: Effective communication is a two-way process that involves both speaking and listening. In conversation classes, verbally expressive children learn the importance of active listening as they engage in discussions with classmates and instructors. This helps them become better listeners, which is essential for effective communication.
- Expanding Vocabulary: Verbally expressive children often enjoy using a wide range of words and expressions. In conversation classes, they have the chance to expand their vocabulary further by engaging in discussions on various topics and learning new words in context.
- Building Confidence: Verbally expressive children may already feel comfortable expressing themselves verbally. However, participating in our conversation classes can further boost their confidence in their speaking abilities. As they receive feedback and encouragement from instructors and peers, they become more assured in their communication skills.
- Developing Social Skills: Our conversation classes provide verbally expressive children with opportunities to interact with peers in a structured setting. This process of critical thinking is essential for academic success and lifelong learning.
- Preparing for Real-Life Situations: Effective communication is a crucial skill for success in various aspects of life, including academics, careers, and personal relationships. By participating in conversation classes, verbally expressive children gain practical experience in real-life communication scenarios, preparing them for future interactions and challenges.
Overall, our conversation classes provide a supportive and enriching environment where your child can harness their natural inclination towards verbal expression to develop essential communication skills, enhance their learning experience, and take their confidence to new heights.
While fluency in reading can certainly contribute to understanding a text – it doesn’t always guarantee it.
Understanding a text involves various factors beyond fluency, such as background knowledge, vocabulary, critical thinking skills, and the complexity of the material. Someone might be fluent in reading but struggle to comprehend a text if they lack the necessary background knowledge or vocabulary, or if the text is particularly challenging. Conversely, someone with less fluency might still understand a text well if they possess strong analytical skills or relevant background knowledge. So while fluency is an important component of reading comprehension, it’s not the sole determinant.
So how do we fit in here….
Our comprehension classes can offer significant benefits to your child in several ways:
- Deepening Understanding: While fluent readers can decode text quickly, our comprehension classes focus on enhancing their understanding of what they read. These classes teach strategies such as summarizing, making predictions, and asking questions to help fluent readers delve deeper into the meaning of the text.
- Developing Critical Thinking: Our comprehension classes encourage fluent readers to analyze texts critically. They learn to evaluate the author’s perspective, identify key themes, and draw conclusions based on evidence from the text. This fosters the development of higher-order thinking skills that are essential for academic success.
- Building Vocabulary: Even fluent readers can encounter unfamiliar words while reading. Our comprehension classes will help expand their vocabulary by teaching strategies for determining the meaning of unknown words from context, as well as introducing new vocabulary through exposure to a variety of texts.
- Improving Retention: Fluency doesn’t always equate to effective retention of information. Our comprehension classes teach techniques for improving memory and retention, such as visualizing, making connections, and summarizing information, which can enhance a fluent reader’s ability to remember and recall details from what they read.
- Enhancing Inferential Skills: Fluent readers may focus primarily on the literal meaning of the text, but our comprehension classes encourage them to go beyond surface-level understanding and infer meaning from implicit clues, context, and background knowledge. This helps them develop a deeper appreciation for nuance and subtlety in texts.
- Fostering a Love for Reading: With our comprehension classes, we aim to make reading a more engaging and enjoyable experience for fluent readers by exposing them to a wide range of genres, topics, and literary styles. By exploring texts in depth and discussing them with peers, as a fluent reader, your child will develop a greater and more well-rounded appreciation for literature.
- Preparing for Advanced Texts: As fluent readers progress through their academic journey, they will encounter increasingly complex and challenging texts. Our comprehension classes equip them with the skills and strategies needed to tackle these advanced texts effectively, including analyzing complex sentence structures, understanding figurative language, and interpreting dense informational passages.
- Supporting Academic Success: Strong reading comprehension skills are essential for success across all subject areas. Our comprehension classes provide fluent readers with the tools they need to excel not only in language arts but also in subjects like science, social studies, and mathematics, where reading comprehension plays a crucial role in understanding complex concepts and information.
Overall, our comprehension classes offer fluent readers the opportunity to deepen their understanding, refine their critical thinking skills, and cultivate a lifelong love for reading.
There are a number of reasons why children may have or develop gaps in their reading. This could range from struggling to recognise or decode words accurately and fluently, to lack of practice
We identify the causes and implement strategies to address them.
A child participating in our reading for fluency class can expect several positive outcomes, including:
Improved Decoding Skills: Enhanced ability to sound out and recognize words accurately, making it easier to read unfamiliar texts.
Increased Reading Speed: Faster reading rates due to better word recognition and automaticity, allowing for more efficient reading.
Enhanced Comprehension: Better understanding of texts as a result of improved fluency, enabling children to focus more on meaning rather than decoding individual words.
Expanded Vocabulary: A broader vocabulary that supports both reading comprehension and overall language development.
Greater Confidence: Increased self-assurance in reading abilities, leading to a more positive attitude towards reading and a willingness to read more frequently.
Better Expression and Prosody: Improved ability to read with appropriate expression, intonation, and rhythm, making reading more enjoyable and understandable.
Reading is key and by achieving these outcomes, your child will experience significant benefits in their overall academic journey and personal growth.
Drama and performing arts classes are fantastic opportunities for children to explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop their expressive abilities through acting, singing, and dancing. These classes typically focus on honing performance skills, such as stage presence, voice projection, character development, and improvisation. They often involve rehearsing and performing scripted scenes or musical numbers in front of an audience, which can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling for children who enjoy the spotlight.
On the other hand, our conversation classes offer a unique learning experience centered around improving language skills, particularly speaking and listening. While drama classes may involve scripted dialogue, our conversation classes focus on authentic, spontaneous communication in the target language. Through engaging discussions, interactive activities, and real-life simulations, children have the opportunity to enhance their fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, and cultural understanding in a supportive and interactive environment.
So, while drama and performing arts classes provide valuable opportunities for self-expression and performance-based skills, our conversation classes offer a specialized approach to language learning and communication development. Both are beneficial in their own right and can complement each other nicely in a well-rounded education. Depending on your child’s interests and goals, you may find that they thrive in one or both of these enriching experiences.
Our classes focus on providing enriching academic experiences in conversation, comprehension, reading, spelling, punctuation & grammar, creative writing and reasoning for children across a spectrum of abilities. While we prioritise creating an inclusive learning environment, we also acknowledge our limitations in handling complex behavioural issues or significant challenges that require specialised interventions. We believe in transparency and ensuring the best possible fit for each child’s needs. If you have any concerns about whether our programme is the right fit for your child, we welcome the opportunity to discuss how we can best support them or to explore alternative options together.
In the event of a missed class, we provide comprehensive feedback and materials from the session to keep you informed about what was covered. This includes a summary of the lesson, any assignments or homework given, and any important announcements or updates. We believe that this ensures continuity in your child’s learning journey and allows them to catch up on missed content at home.
Additionally, we are available to answer any questions or provide clarification on the material covered during the missed class. We strive to support both you and your child every step of the way to ensure they receive the full benefits of our programme, even in the case of occasional absences.
